It began in 2011...
We moved to CA in June of 2011 from Hong Kong. Similar to most immigrants, we came here in the hopes of obtaining a better education for Vanessa and Kay (aka the daughters). Shortly after migrating, chef Kit (aka the mom) needed to seek for job opportunities to support the financial need for the family.
She started collecting plastic bottles, washed dishes at restaurants, helped out at a flower shop, and worked as a waitress. In the summer of 2015, chef Kit and Vanessa took a baking class at Laney College. At which they happened to discover a non-profit program called Oakland Bloom...
Since 2015
Through Oakland Bloom, a non-profit program that supports immigrants who need guidance on starting their food business in the industry, chef Kit and Vanessa took training and demonstration classes that introduced the basics and foundation of starting the food business journey.
Our goal is to spread the "street food" culture that is synonymous with Hong Kong, with a touch of Asian fusion cuisine in our food.
Chef Kit used to hang out at the local open-air market where her parents sold garments from a stall. She and the other children at the market would play and explore together while their parents were hard at work. She remembers the smell of freshly made fried foods, cart-noodles, egg tarts, steaming hot buns, egg puffs and waffles, curry fish balls, and imitation shark fin soup that would fill the market air. Eating at these carts was special for Kit because during brief breaks, she would eat together with her parents as a family.
While she was raising Vanessa and Kay back in Hong Kong, she brought them to those open-air market and shared stories with them. Even to this day, they would always eat at the local open-air markets whenever they visit Hong Kong. Why? Because that's where they most feel loved and welcomed.
